Delaware Tech Honors Wilmington Chief of Police Wilfredo Campos during Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

Delaware Technical Community College’s Stanton and Wilmington campuses honored Wilfredo Campos, Wilmington’s chief of police, for his commitment to the Hispanic community and culture in northern Delaware at its 14th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Honoree Celebration on Oct. 12.
Since 2010, Delaware Tech has recognized and celebrated individuals whose exceptional contributions improved the lives of Hispanic and Latino individuals throughout Delaware.
Campos, a Wilmington native, is the first person of Hispanic descent to be named police chief for the City of Wilmington. A 26-year veteran of the Wilmington Police Department, he was appointed by Mayor Mike Purzycki as the city’s 33rd police chief in January 2023.
Chief Campos has served in a number of positions on the city police force during his law enforcement career, including the Uniformed Services Division, Community Policing Unit, Criminal Investigations Division, and the Human Resources Division. As a detective, he was assigned to a Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Task Force, and he also has served with the United States Army Reserve.
In addition to his service as police chief, Campos is also active with community organizations, serving as a board member of Westside Family Healthcare and Los Jardines Senior Housing.
During the ceremony, Campos was also honored with tributes from Delaware’s Congressional delegation, governor, lieutenant governor, New Castle County, and the City of Wilmington.
